Neighbourhood love

Rectenly I went to visit my family.  I went to Colne in Lancashire and then to Shelf which is right on the border between Bradford and Halifax.  I noticed how friendly people are in these areas and how nice it is that everyone knows someone and everyone looks out for each other.  It really makes for a friendly and safe place to live.  I pass by so many people when ever I leave my flat and I may get one or two smiles and it's a rare occasion that someone I dont know will say hello.

I really do miss Yorkshire for this since you can take the dog on a walk and every person will smile and say hello :)  It's sad to know that the busy life style the city brings means that people dont have time for strangers.  You cant meet anybody new without first being strangers and some of the greatest friends I have have been random strangers =)  Some times I feel like each person I pass by is an opportunity to enlighten my own life.

I have a tendency to be rather 'weird' and if I see someone that I like the look of or get a feeling from that I know I'll like them I will make an effort to get to know them even if I dont know them at all!  In the city this is very weird and people are confused and dont seem to understand it, but having interesting people in your life are part of what makes your life a lot more interesting =)

I guess this post is just a ramble about how I wish city folk were more like country folk but I guess I'm just a coutry girl at heart and one day I will return to my love =)

This is a great post! Thanks for the comment. I think if you knew the books I was reading you might not think it was that great! Talking of reading, you have a fantastic taste in books on your profile. They are doing a production of nineteen eighty-four in my local theatre and I am definitely planning to go! glad you enjoyed my secret.

I love going around Oxford and smiling at random people - I don't know if I prefer it when they look really confused or when they smile back!

aaaaahhhh....I know exactly what you mean. I grew up in a small city where everybody loves to smile a LOT, that it was later dubbed as the City of Smiles..no kidding! haha! and then i transferred to Manila, where everybody is just too busy they cant even be bothered to glance at you let alone smile. :)

I want to move to a place that looks like your first picture so badly.
thank you so much for sharing your kissing story with me. i just got out of a "mehh" situation, but the memories I was left with are pretty perfect. I just loved that you were on top of a cathedral. that is such beautiful imagery, I can just see how special that must have been.
