David Hockney

The other day I was up stupidly early and put on the bbc news for the moments I was awake for.  It did a good job of sending me back to sleep :)  I did however like the piece on Japanese gaming, if you didn't know already I'll a little bit of a gamer though I haven't recently had much time to allow myself to indulge in such things.  Since I was so sleepy I looked up the info I wanted online and happened to find this!

It is rare to find someone from Bradford with so much talent :)  Bradford's the town I grew up in, it's an industrial Yorkshire town filled with factories and not much else.  They do make for some wonderful buildings and since the trades have since moved away a lot of the old ones are converted for various other uses.  The most famous and I think the most stunning of these is Salts Mill.  Now half of which is used as an art gallery with an amazing diner and collections :)

I actually feel like I was lucky enough to grow up close to such a place and have parents that took me and my brother there often.  They even loved it so much they bought piece after piece, framed prints of course :)  All the pieces were by David Hockney and because I was surrounded by his works from a very young age and got to look at many of them every day they became part of me and my everyday world.  They surrounded you when you were in the kitchen, or at least when you're little and the kitchen is huge then that's how it felt.  I grew to love some and hate others and they have definitely shaped part of who I am.  I actually cant believe it's something I'd almost forgotten about!  So I shall share with you a few of my favourites and hopefully I wont overload you with too many images :)

At one point I hated these of the pools, I just got sick of looking at pools!  These were the ones in the kitchen and there must have been at least 4pics of pools!

My parents obviously dreamed of warmer climates going by all these.

Saved the best till last!  This is my all time favourite piece as a child I used to dream that one day I'd have a place that looked like this =)  This picture also caused a lot of argument between me and my brother as to who got the picture and unfortunately he got it in his bedroom I was devastated but it gave more chances to go and annoy him ha!

It's funny how something so simple and otherwise insignificant can bring back so many memories and emotions :)

I'll be honest, he's not one of my favourite artists but I really like that last picture! Perhaps this is because I'm fond of chairs, who knows...

Hockney is pretty awesome - pretty sure he's from really near me, Beverley or somewhere?

the colors are really vivid. its so nice that you appreciated art from a young age, its nice to hear that parents are interested in teaching their kids about the world around them :)
