The politics show

So the climate change talk I went to in the pub last tuesday was on the north west politics show.  I had no idea that there were different shows depending on your region, though to be honest I've never actually watched the politics show before.  I actually skipped through to the part that I might have been in ha!  You may catch a glimpse of me, but to be honest it's doubtful as you'd have to know where I was sat to look for it, but if you do watch it the guy that gets labeled 'the unconvinced' is a friend and he said alot more they just cut him off and at the end of the whole part on the pub the last clip of a guy taking a swig of his beer is my friend and I was sat next to him but you cant see me.

I didn't like the way that a talk in a pub with pints and things was taken as a serious scientific debate.  It's a strange world we live in if that's true, but as far as I was aware it's not serious debate.  It's one person giving there views, from the background of being part of that field and so having a good knowledge about it, to an audience of mixed backgrounds in a unformal mannor to provoke a debate between tipsey people.  I am very frustrated that science is being depicted in this way.  It's not a joke, it's not an informal thing and it's definately not done seriously or properly under the influence of alcohol and I'm very very annoyed at the BBC for portraying it as such.

Science isn't boring either!!!!!  I mean you can go to an informal talk about quite a difficult topic in a pub and anyone with a little interest can understand what's being said and ask questions and having that pint gives you that extra courage to do so :)  So yes it's good to have these informal talks as it gives you an idea of the subject and gives you the courage to ask the questions you wouldn't normally dare to and afterwards you debate the subject with your friends who've also had a pint or two :)  That's what these informal talks are, they give you some information from an expert (they are an expert in that they know and study on the subject) and are sharing what they know.  It gives you an oportunity to ask questions you may think of and you think about the topic and discuss it with the people you came with.   That isn't a scientific debate that's a bunch of people in a pub doing what people do in a pub, except they are given a topic to discuss.

Sorry for my rant it's just frustrating to see science made to look so bad.

Two cute owls to denote intelligence and to brighten this post up :)

Have a wonderful monday =)
